| The film Nine by Rob Marshall is not of course the only film in which true jewels ornamented with diamonds have 'appeared'. They were so beautiful that it is necessary to describe them! Nine is an unusual musical, inspired by the classic 8½ of the Italian director Federico Fellini and by the theatrical Nine, which was based on the same work. The film is a feast of chic attires – hardly surprising given there are as many as nine famous actresses starring in it. One of those even plays a designer of costumes for films. The most valuable stones in the world could not be shown otherwise than with glamour. The theatrical lighting (the same method Marshall used with success in the dazzling Chicago) not only enlivens the imaginary world of the hero of the film, but also emphasises wonderfully the diamonds decorating the outfits of the actresses. The jewellery worn on the set of Nine is the work of designers from the famous firm Chopard. What glittering beauties then graced the heroines? The hand of Nicole Kidman, in the role of muse to the leading character, is adorned by a bracelet ornamented with 320 diamonds of a total mass of 97.1 carat, and a ring bearing a diamond of emerald cut. The set was completed with earrings featuring 44 diamonds of a total mass of 18.7 carat. The journalist, played by Kate Hudson, wears a ring ornamented with 540 diamonds and a golden pearl. The mistress of the lead – the role taken by Penelope Cruz – delights with her earrings, these bearing pink diamonds in a white gold setting. It is interesting to wonder whether the fees of the actresses in the musical were higher than the value of the diamonds used. |
