Swiss luxury watch brand Hublot unveils the world’s first $5 million diamond watch. The timepiece is covered with 1,282 diamonds. It took 17 people 14 months to set the more than 140 carats of diamonds. The diamond watch is put on show at BaselWorld, the world’s most important watch and jewelry fair.
Each spring some 1800 companies from the watch, jewellery and precious-stone industries and about 100,000 visitors from all over the world meet in Basel/Switzerland at the BaselWorld - The World Watch and Jewellery Show. By the way, analysts are noticing a cautiously bullish mood among exhibitors at the 2012 show based on strong results for watch and jewellery exports and sales last year, especially in the luxury sector. That’s due largely to sharply rising consumer demand especially in China and other Asian countries.
It seems the $5m diamond watch will be a hard to beat. Hublot president Jean-Claude Biver said it will be difficult to make a more expensive timepiece because of the size limitations on the surface of a watch. In other words there is almost no place for some more diamonds…
